DISNEY'S EVAN K SHAW ALICE IN WONDERLAND TWEEDLE DEE -OR- DUM (DAMAGED)For That Special Alice In Wonderland Collector
You Are Bidding On A DAMAGED Evan K. Shaw American Pottery Walt Disney’s 1950’s World Of Enchantment in Ceramics Alice In Wonderland Tweedle Dee-or-Dum That Unfortunately Has Lived A Tough Life
Around 1950, Evan K. Shaw released two beautiful ceramic sets and included them in a select retail promotion called, “Walt Disney’s World Of Enchantment In Ceramics.” The Alice In Wonderland set featured Alice, the Mad Hatter, March Hare, White Rabbit, Walrus, Dormouse, along with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Since each ceramic piece was individually hand painted, each piece displays unique features and expressions.
This badly chipped Tweedle Dee (or Dum) took a tumble earlier in life and now lives with a number of blemishes. But he is still very loveable and is looking for home to take him in. This 3 3/4” tall Tweedle has a severely chipped brim on his hat. He also has multiple chips located on the top of his lips, on his left elbow and on the green leaf in the back. There are also rough spots on the top of both of his ears.
Despite all this damage, Tweedle still sports a joyous big smile on his face. This Tweedle Dee (or Dum) is priced to reflect his defects and could make a sufficient substitute in your collection until you find a replacement.
This Alice In Wonderland Tweedle has survived to the age of 70 YEARS OLD!
American Pottery was founded by Evan K. Shaw who was a former Vernon Kilns employee. During the period of 1943 through 1955, Evan K. Shaw created the largest ceramics outfit in the Los Angeles area under many different Company names and Disney Licenses including Metlox & The American Pottery Company. Evan K. Shaw's American Pottery signed its first contract with Disney on February 4, 1943.
Shaw/American Pottery figures are known for their details, expressions and quality. Shaw/American Pottery had their own Mold Makers. The Disney Studios would provide model sheets to be followed for each design. Once Shaw/American Pottery came up with a new concept, it would have to be approved by the Disney Studio artists and the Disney licensing division before any production could begin.
